Programme Overview
The University of Birmingham Nuclear Decommissioning and Waste Management MSc prepares students for specialist careers involving the safe retirement and remediation of nuclear facilities.
Students study nuclear radiation, dosimetry, shielding, fuel cycles, radioactive-waste processing, storage and disposal.
The curriculum also covers policy, regulation, site decommissioning, environmental management and practical nuclear-industry methods.
A major research project allows students to investigate a live technical or environmental challenge with academic or industry supervision.
The programme combines nuclear science with geoscience, materials science, environmental management and regulatory understanding.
