Programme Overview
UCL's Advanced Materials Science MSc provides advanced postgraduate education in the scientific principles, structure, properties and applications of modern materials.
The programme is delivered by the UCL Institute for Materials Discovery and combines research-led materials science with innovation and commercial awareness.
Students study compulsory modules covering advanced materials science and research design and methods before selecting optional modules aligned with their individual technical interests.
The course develops skills in materials analysis, research, experimental design and the translation of scientific discoveries into practical and commercial applications.
Students also complete research and design-based work that develops their ability to investigate and create advanced materials for applications spanning energy, healthcare, technology and other engineering sectors.
