Programme Overview
This MSc combines advanced mechanical engineering study with structured professional industry experience.
Students complete advanced taught engineering modules followed by an industrial placement lasting approximately 8 to 12 weeks.
The placement helps students apply engineering knowledge in a professional environment and develop employability, project-management and communication skills.
After the placement, students complete a substantial individual MSc research project.
Relevant employment sectors explicitly identified by Strathclyde include aerospace, automotive, manufacturing, power, rail and other engineering industries.
Entry Requirements
Normally a first-class or second-class honours degree, or international equivalent, in engineering or physical sciences.
Equivalent professional qualifications may also be accepted.

Career Outcomes
Scholarship Information
Eligible international applicants may receive the £6,000 Faculty of Engineering International Scholarship. A limited number of Dean's International Excellence Awards worth £9,000 to £12,000 are also available. Placement earnings are not guaranteed and students are responsible for securing their industrial placement with departmental support.
