Job Description
The Staff Thermal Analysis Engineer will lead thermal design and validation for Rivian’s low-voltage electrical hardware and ECU portfolio. The position covers chip, package, PCB and enclosure-level thermal modelling, electronic cooling, transient analysis and simulation-to-test correlation. The engineer will optimise thermal interfaces and heat-transfer paths to improve electronic reliability, efficiency, mass and performance in demanding vehicle environments.
Responsibilities
• Lead thermal strategies for advanced vehicle electrical hardware and ECUs.
• Develop cooling and electronic-packaging solutions for next-generation vehicle architectures.
• Perform chip, package, PCB and complete-system steady-state and transient simulations.
• Define CFD workflows and use simulation results to optimise high-power hardware.
• Evaluate thermal interface materials and PCB-to-chassis heat-transfer paths.
• Plan thermal tests and correlate simulations with measured hardware results.
• Conduct thermal failure investigations and recommend design improvements.
• Document analysis methods, test findings and technical recommendations.
• Mentor engineers and coordinate multidisciplinary thermal-development activities.
Eligibility
• Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Thermal Engineering or a related discipline.
• Advanced experience in thermal simulation and thermal design of electronic hardware.
• Strong understanding of heat transfer, electronic packaging and vehicle environmental requirements.
• Experience with three-dimensional CAD, numerical analysis and failure-analysis methods.
• Ability to communicate technical findings and lead multidisciplinary engineering work.
