Job Description

The Staff Design Engineer will join Rivian’s Powertrain Drive Unit team and establish advanced mechanical design concepts for future vehicle programmes. The position leads drive-unit layouts from initial architecture through complete three-dimensional assemblies. The engineer will integrate motors, power electronics, gears, bearings, housings, joints and vehicle interfaces while considering production, serviceability and tolerance requirements.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of advanced electric drive-unit concepts for future programmes.
• Create parametric three-dimensional models of components, subassemblies and complete assemblies.
• Establish drive-unit mechanical layouts and packaging architecture.
• Participate in multidisciplinary technical-integration meetings.
• Apply design-for-manufacturing and design-for-assembly principles.
• Develop GD&T strategies and assembly-tolerance requirements.
• Coordinate designs through product-lifecycle-management processes.
• Resolve mechanical packaging and component-interface problems.

Eligibility

• Relevant degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent discipline.
• Detailed understanding of electric-vehicle propulsion components and subsystems.
• At least five years of professional CATIA experience, with CATIA V6 preferred.
• Experience using ENOVIA or an equivalent product-lifecycle-management system.
• Strong knowledge of GD&T, manufacturing processes and assembly tolerancing.
