Job Description
This PhD internship applies first-principles and multiphysics modelling to next-generation battery systems. The intern will investigate electrochemical performance, degradation, thermal behaviour and electrode mechanics, turning model results into guidance for sustainable battery design and material selection.
Responsibilities
• Develop and validate physics-based battery models.
• Model electrochemical, thermal and mechanical battery behaviour.
• Investigate degradation, particle fracture and heat-generation mechanisms.
• Process electrode microstructure and tomography data.
• Integrate models into multiscale simulation frameworks.
• Present research and contribute to publications, reviews and intellectual property.
Eligibility
• Current PhD student expected to graduate by 2028.
• Degree focus in Physics, Mathematics, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computational Materials Science or a closely related discipline.
• Research focus involving electrochemistry or battery modelling.
• Experience with finite-element and multiphysics battery models.
• Strong C++ and Python capability.
• Demonstrated research publications or technical presentations.
